  • Can DCI pipes be cut on-site, and what are the precautions for re-jointing?

    Yes, ductile iron pipes can be cut on-site using an abrasive saw or pipe cutter. Follow these mandatory precautions before re-jointing:

    • Beveling: Bevel the cut spigot end at approximately 15° to 20° and smooth all sharp edges to avoid damaging the rubber gasket during insertion.
    • Coating Touch-Up: Apply an approved anti-corrosion touch-up paint (e.g., food-grade epoxy or zinc-rich paint) to the bare metal cut end.
    • Marking: Measure and re-mark the insertion depth line on the cut spigot end to ensure complete and correct seating into the socket.
  • What are the main joint types available, and when should I use Restrained Joints?

    We manufacture three primary joint connections:

    • Push-on Joint (Tyton Type): The most popular, flexible, and fast-to-install socket joint for standard underground laying.
    • Mechanical Joint (K-Type): Ideal for fittings, valves, or pipe runs requiring higher angular deflection.
    • Restrained Joint (Self-Anchored): Essential for trenchless installations (HDD), steep slopes, bridge crossings, or high-seismic zones. They absorb axial tension forces and eliminate the need for concrete thrust blocks.
  • Which internal lining should be specified for drinking water vs. sewerage applications?

     Internal lining selection depends on the fluid properties:

    • Potable (Drinking) Water: Standard Portland Cement Mortar Lining compliant with ISO 4179 / EN 545, or Sulfate Resistant Cement (SRC) for raw/brackish water.
    • Sewerage & Industrial Wastewater (pH 4 to 12): High-Alumina Cement (HAC) mortar lining compliant with EN 598, or Polyurethane (PU) / Epoxy lining to resist biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion.
  • How do I choose between K-Class (e.g., K9) and C-Class (e.g., C30, C40) Ductile Iron Pipes?

    Both classes follow international standards (ISO 2531 / EN 545), but their classification systems differ:

    • K-Class (Traditional Thickness Class): Classifies pipes by wall thickness. K9 is the global benchmark for standard water infrastructure, offering thick pipe walls and substantial safety margins.
    • C-Class (Modern Pressure Class): Classifies pipes by allowable operating pressure (PFA). For example, C40, C30, and C25 withstand 40 bar, 30 bar, and 25 bar working pressures respectively. C-Class offers an optimized, cost-effective weight without compromising pressure performance.
